Countertenor and Performance Artist
Meandering with the Wind
This project is a colaboration with pianist and composer Petra Cini. It explores the dynamic between early and contemporary music. It brings together two distinct artistic voices in a shared exploration of the space between composition and performance, tradition and transformation.
Rather than juxtaposing old and new, we seak to treat early repertoire as material open to re-framing and reinterpretation. Petra draws inspiration from Antonio Valente’s Intavolatura de Cimbalo (1576), reworking it through her pianistic and compositional language in a new piece for piano, voice, electronics, and electric baroque guitar. In parallel, I presents new arrangements of John Coprario’s Funeral Tears (1606), reimagined through my background in early vocal music, contemporary sound, and performance practice.
The concert unfolds as a musical diptych: two separate but interlinked sound worlds built around historical repertoire, shaped through dialogue and shared inquiry. We each leads our own creative material—Petra in composition, and me in arrangement—while contributing to the other’s process through reflection and response. The result is a programme that questions when interpretation becomes composition, and how musical identities can speak across centuries.
This project was developed through multiple residencies and premiered in 2025. We hope it offers a different curatorial approach that transforms early repertoire into living material—bridging past and present, form and freedom, with artistic integrity and sonic boldness.
